First off let me explain what hosting actually is: Every website needs a computer somewhere to send the pages to the people that want them, when they want them. These computers are called hosts, and the service is called Hosting.

Hosting can cost anywhere from a couple of pounds a year, to thousands or even hundreds of thousands per year (for people like Google or Facebook). There's also the added issue of what kind of computer do you want to be your host?

Imagine if you will, the biggest computer shop of all time, and then imagine having to choose one to use for the next year, and then imagine the hassle of setting it up so that it runs all your programs properly - some programs like Macs, some like Windows, and most of them like Linux! Pretty scary huh? Well, that's why I will always advise you to get hosted solutions, when you get a hosted solution you don't have to worry about all that, because a team of boffins already have it all figured out and working to its best!
